You’ve finished your CP, you’ve got your rating, and now the real learning begins. Choosing your first paraglider is the most important equipment decision you’ll make. While every wing in the EN-A category is "safe" by definition, they all behave differently in the air.

Every wing has a certified weight range (e.g., 75kg–95kg). This is your All-Up Weight (you + clothes + harness + wing + reserve). In the UK, we often fly in "lumpy" air or breezy coastal conditions. If you sit at the very bottom of the weight range, the wing will feel light, slow, and prone to being "bullied" by the wind.

2. Stability vs. Feedback: Which Pilot Are You?

Paragliders are designed on a spectrum:

  • The "Dampened" Wing: These wings absorb turbulence. They are rock-solid and perfect for pilots who want maximum peace of mind.

If you are still practicing your ground handling (and you should be!), or like to travel to Spain or Morocco for some winter flying & sun, a standard-weight wing will survive the abrasion much better.

The Compromise: Look for "Semi-Light" wings that use durable fabric on the leading edge but lighter cloth on the bottom surface.
